At the heart of Carlos Acosta’s first programme as artistic director is a mixed bill of electrifying works that showcase the astounding versatility of the company, and in which Acosta himself is joined on stage by a very special guest. Acosta also gives a unique insight into his cultural influences and the future of the company, with a specially curated festival.
Goyo Montero revisits his recent work, Chacona, incorporating a new pas de deux for Acosta and Alessandra Ferri, who guests following “one of the remarkable comebacks in artistic history” (The Times). As part of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Ballet Now, Daniela Cardim, former dancer with Dutch National Ballet, and Emmy Award-winning composer Paul Englishby, premiere a new commission. Finally, George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, uses a series of stunning pas de deux to build to a spectacular 26-strong finale.
